It was a season opener just how we expected. Wild, fast and hugely entertaining. The first two races of the season are done and Marc Stwerka and Martin Jatzek are our first TCC winners.
The Qualifying itself couldn’t have been less exciting, with Stwerka and Jatzek sharing the exact same lap time of 2:33.046 for pole position.
With the Qualifying done and dusted we knew it’s gonna be a entertaining race. Stwerka and Jatzek had arguably the best starts and went off in lap 1 to start fighting for the lead immediately. After a small mistake by Jatzek the fight for P1 seemed to have settled, but behind his black and red SEAT the fight for positions was never going to stop. With a wild crash in lap 2, Constantin Grimminger ended his fight for a podium and left it all to Jatzek and Bob Sacamano, who tailgated Jatzek through the whole race, but couldn’t find a way past the German. In the end, Stwerka won the inaugural TCC race ahead of Jatzek and Sacamano.
The reverse grid for Race 2 promised even more entertainment – a promise which fulfilled immediately when Phillip Volland and Francisco Vazquez had an astonishing battle for the lead in the first two laps. Later on, Stwerka, Grimminger and Jatzek caught up, making it a 5-way battle for the lead.
After some minor incidents like door-rubbing, Jatzek emerged in the lead and left it all to the remaining drivers to fight out. Grimminger seemed to have the best end in that, as he finished 2nd ahead of the Honda of Nick Atsidakos.
It was an entertaining event with a lot of action provided on the track, but also all drivers showed superb driving and amazing skills around the Circuit Spa-Francorchamps.
Next race is on April 21st at Circuit Zolder. We hope to see you there!
